vampire TV shows

Postby gem » Mar 18, 2010 1:41 am

Recently there seem to be a lot of TV series that have vampires. Which ones do y'all watch ? (and so many of them are based on books :O shock me)

I really like true blood and vampire diaries, cos I'm watching them right now...

Ones I know of:

The Vampire Diaries - On the WB, 2 vampire brothers from civil war, one good one bad, both interested in same girl who looks like their maker/lover, high school. based on book series.

True Blood - HBO - 2 yrs ago, the vampire nation anounces to the world vampires exist and want to co-exist with humans, they have synthetic blood they can live on. Focus on small town in louisiana on a girl who can read minds, just not vampires, she takes vampire lovers. based on book series. ♥

Moonlight - reporter meets private eye, who is a vampire who hates being a vampire. I liked the show... ended after 13 episodes or so...

night ___ - that old show on sci-fi with the cop who is a vampire in love with the girl does the autopsies, she supplies him with blood. Again he hates beng a vampire... what is the name ?! I just remember going wtf? for the last episode

classic ones:
Buffy
Angel
(Charmed?)

I feel like I'm missing quite a lot.
hello, wikipedia article:

What are you favorites, hates, and recommendations for shows to watch ?

The vampire diaries show has been better than I expected, when I heard that they were making it, I searched for the book series by L.J. Smith, and read it, decided it was a pile of crap, the books are short stories, and they've changed A LOT to make the show much better, so I like it, as the acting is quite good.

True Blood is up there as one of the best vampire shows ever, should also note its based upon a series of books by charlaine harris - the sookie stackhouse series, I've read all of them as well, decent books, Eric is my fav. character both in the tv series and the books.

I rather liked the tv series moonlight, it didn't last very long unfortunately.

I think Gemma, your talking about "Forever Knight" I think?. It was bleh, nothing special.

Your missing "Blood Ties", it was OK, lasted a couple seasons only.

A show about magic, not a vampire show, although there were vampires in it on an episode or two, which was produced by nicolas cage was "The Dresden files". I was soooo sad to see this show not be renewed for a second season. It was simply great.

When I was a kid there was a Canadian tv series called "the little vampire" yes, just like the dumb movie from 2000, I think that really got me addicted to vampires as a kid. Thinking back on it, the show itself wasn't very good LOL.

There was an 8 episode tv series about vampires called "Kindred : the embraced", which was based upon the games "Vampire: the masquerade", the show was an interesting take on the video game, but if you watch the series, you'll see why it failed to last. But its definitely a game you should check out.

A MUST see vampire movie is the swedish movie "Let the right one in", they're re-making it in the states, it was amazing, I tried to read the novel, but it was a bit too graphic, I don't suggest reading it to be honest, but definitely see the movie. Another one is "Vampire Diary", not the new tv series, its an english film, it has Anna Walton in it (she played princess Nuala in hellboy 2). it starts off slow and is a documentary type feel to it, but it grows into an excellent film (note that it is an adult only film).

But thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

yay! Calan you make some great suggestions.

yes, I was thinking of the show 'Forever Knight'. True it wasn't that good a series. It was bleh. Similar to moonlight where the man character is a vampire that wants to be human and hates himself, terrible trait in a vampire. But the shows redeeming quality was the ending, and let me spoil it for you now, because it is not worth watching the show. The last episode, the vampire wants to turn his lady friend into a vampire. He drinks too much of her blood and kills her. Then he kills himself with a stack. a wtf$@ moment. But how many shows kill off the 2 main characters as the show ending? kind of awesome.

I hadn't heard of the series Blood Ties or the Kindred. Dresden files sounds interesting too.

While I'm thinking of vampire movies and wtf$@ moments. Let me suggest "From Dusk Till Dawn" a 1996 Quintin Tarentino movie before his big Reservoir dog 1997 hit. Lots of action. I watched this movie not knowing it would be a vampire movie and let me say, If you watch this solely expecting an action movie and don't read the plot, preferable forgetting that it is a vampire movie. You will be pleasantly surprised/shocked/wtf moment.
(for the record I just don't like any Tarentino movie since they are just plain violence without any plot to justify the fighting, so I can't really recommend this as a good movie. I think Tarentino is a great director and does great art/scene/music, but the plots are so horrible...)

imdb http://www.imdb.com/keyword/vampire/ says it has 1,332 popular keyword matches for vampire. That's a lot of tv and movies with vampires. (What and only 20 of them are musicals? )

I'm still more of a Forever Knight fan, but aside from this, I haven't watched much. I prefer anime or manga now, like Vampire Knight and Hellsing. Hellsing is awesome.

new true blood episodes coming out soon (well, not soon enough)....

I saw the Hellsing anime, I hear the manga is better, but I just like how the main guy is called alucard which is dracula backwards (yes, someone else had to point that out to me... )

The voice actor for Hellsing's Alucard in English (Crispin Freeman) was one of the best I heard in cartoon dubbing. Really menacing and booming.

One of the funnier "Alucards" in anime was the Master of Mosquiton. :P

I also liked Blood+, which gets shown often on the cable channel Animax.

So I decided to make this post as true blood season 3 is about to start very soon! (June 13th 2010, YAY!) and wanted to have a post strictly for true blood, because its the best vampire tv show ever made.

Please, if your posting ANY details about the show, please use the "spoiler" BBCode around the text that has the info so we don't ruin it for people reading this, Thanks.

Here is a post regarding true blood trailers and minisodes. It is currently in the vampire tv shows page, but I decided to copy it here as well.

So Season 3 of True blood starts Sunday June 13th, but for the next month every Sunday after the true blood season 3 episodes, they're playing these True Blood minisodes (mini episodes), that introduce new characters and such and are stories to fit in between last season and the new one, there is going to be 6 out by the start of next season! And remember, these minisodes will NOT be in the actual show during Season 3.

I'll post the links to youtube here each week for everyone.
CAUTION: These videos for True Blood Minisodes are intended for adult viewers only. May contain extreme violence, strong language, and sexual activity. Viewer discretion advised.

edit: pam and eric are awesome, #1 is still my favorite of the first 3.

I finally got around to watching the last 4 episodes of The vampire diaries. !? The series only has 22 not 24 episodes? (want to make sure I didn't miss something). The finally certainly ended with HUGE cliff hangers. I really like all the vampires in the show, and the end really brings back a lot of vampires (and werewolves?) for the finally. super super.

The Gates trailer is 16sec! super short, not really sure what the series will be about. But it sounds like stepford wifes suburban neighborhood with a few vampires instead of robots thrown in the mix...

The Finale for Vampire Diaries was great, Ian Somerhalder really makes that show, and I hope Nina Dobrev makes Season 2 just amazing with her playing two totally opposite and very important characters.

The Gates is supposed to be Desperate Housewives + Vampries, SOOOO dumb.
