Everything Kicks My Butt

Postby Gorilla » Mar 21, 2010 10:50 am

I had one of the starts where you get a sexy secretary. I've done the Hypno club scene, went to Westview, drank the blood, and went back. My Fighting level is 22. Now I want to do other quests. I take ones that say level 1. I take ones that say level 5. Everything kicks my butt. It seems their level has nothing to do with your level or the quest, and my wife did these same quests already.

So in Marge's, the first dog I fight is Red to me and like level 30ish. I went to the graveyard to dig up graves and the first zombie is green. No biggie, Then suddenly BAM they are really high level and kill you in a few hits. Same thing happened when freeing the 5 sisters. Can't finish it because mobs eventually just decimate.

She got all sorts of quests rewards and items and her stats are much higher than me. I can't find a quest my level to do. Those Gargoyles in the alley were easy at the time, but something has gone terribly wrong. Any ideas PLEASE. :>(

That does seem odd. There shouldn't be a zombie in Haunting you can't handle. Also, you should be getting the same rewards as your wife for the same mission. Quests (those that are avail through Facebook) are a bit different and vary based on level. Some of them have very difficult endings where you come across boss level monsters, who will kick your butt if you aren't quick about potions etc!

Some things to check/do:

-Reload, sometimes that is all it takes for the system to recognize you properly.

-Make sure you are well equipped (Click the red fist icon at bottom right of screen)

-Update your fighting skills, you should have had at least three opportunities to get new fighting skills (one every five levels)

-Keep health potion handy, even add it to your bite bar through the skills window.

-try playing through www.cityofeternals.com see if it makes a difference.

Thanks. I found some skeletons I could kill in Barnaby's house but when I turned it in and picked the weapon, nothing showed up in my inventory. Not my "Items" which I have room, but on my equip (red fist) screen. I had nothing in any of the boxes on the left, accepted a weapon with +24 Defense, and I don't have it. UGH.

I'll try later through the URL you recommended. I've tried 4 different browsers to see if it was related: Chrome, Opera, IE, and Safari. This is frustrating. But it's a Beta.

Humm check it again later, and post the results. If this keeps up I'm going to ask you to write a full bug report (as per "not sure" below) and move this topic to bugs.

Yeah going out for the day but I may need to do some bug reports later tonight. I was able to make one item but now I can't make any even if I have the materials (the button either doesn't work or now it's missing) and my Hot Keys work sporadically. Sometimes it's a garbled window you can't configure, and sometime you can configure. Otherwise, I don't have time to go looking through my back and consuming a potion, at least not at this level. By the time I realize I need one, if it isn't on my hot key bar I don't get to it in time.

Thanks for the help. I'm a gamer AND a techie and this is frustrating because my wife is a non-gamer and I caught up to her pretty quick, but her stats are way beyond mine as she solo'd all these quests and got some gear. LOL

At least I have a sexy assistant!

I also run across this with a number of my missions. They seem to scale up as I level. When I originally entered them they were just a little higher than me, and I though "No problem, I'll come back in a couple levels" I come back in a few levels and the monsters are even higher.

Forces me to skip these quests as I unfortunately have no friends that play CoE currently, and I've been unlucky in finding assistance in the game itself.

I'm only level 40 or so, but if you need help just let me know. Add me to your Facebook and just let me know it's for CoE, we'll stomp some monsters together.
Some of the missions actually seem to force you to group if you want to be able to complete them, which is unfortunate, for me anyways.

I've thought about sending out a call for my co-workers to come join me, but I think Ohai would literally come to my house and beat me to death/undeath with a steel pipe for bringing a crew of professional beta testers into their game

LOL Thelvyn.

Well thanks. Maybe the scaling in the game is just a bit crazy in beta. I didn't "skip" anything but I did spend quite a bit of time "exploring" as I followed what I thought was the main newbie quest line (getting the blood and drinking it).

So I spent quite a bit of time with my entourage, dumpster diving, decorating my house (okay putting one couch down), and crafting. It must have given me experience and levels which others earned by questing and getting rewards. Now that I don't have those rewards [yet] and the quests have scaled a bit, I simply have poor stats. Sigh.

It doesn't help that the nice weapon I chose on that last quest simply never showed up in my inventory; which wasn't full and technically it would go on the "red fist" page. No matter, I joined house Cosca to dazzle the vampire world with mad fashion. These matters won't stop that! :D

That is deliberate as many missions scale around your exact level. Sometimes the enemies will scale slightly higher than you are in order to make it more difficult. Generally, you are more than a much for a creature at your own level, so a couple extra levels evens things out a bit. Except:

1. If you do not have gear at your level: many of the skills are based around how good your gear is, so if you're not up to snuff, you're going to get waxed.

2. Bosses: Boss characters are seriously difficult and may require lots of potions or new strategies to defeat.

3. Certain enemies: Enemies with certain powers (poison or disease especially) are significantly harder than enemies without. This actually makes them harder to beat at higher level!

So, get tons of potions, get new gear, but really, ask a friend to go with you! It'll make things easier and way more fun. And if you don't have any friends who play, just ask around town. Most of the time a player would love to help out!

Here is a Wiki Vendor List, which tells you where to get stuff from each vendor, and if they sell weapons, what levels of weapons they carry.
